1st announcement bingo

how about this

everyone guess 10 bands that will appear in the first announcement

a point for every UK based band - two for a band from elesewhere

winner gets a prize (lock of my hair, small tub of toenail clippings)

here's my punt - based mostly on likelihood, rather than hope:

steve mason

idles

euros childs

hen ogledd

nilüfer yanya

the fernweh

sharon van etten

jenny lewis

the national

the comet is coming

Here's mine, hastily put together without much thought. Some I'd be happy to see, others less so. In the unlikely event of winning I'll go for the lock of hair rather than clippings please :)

and I’ll be happy with most of that

I know but it would be good if people had genuine guesses and not just copied Green Man tweets and that goes for me as well seeing as I copied Idles. And you can have the toe nails if I win--unless you plan to leave them as DNA evidence at a crime scene

You can be the first, but maybe the last. I’ve seen IDLES twice and can’t wait to see them again. And as for Anais, not bothered by Hadestown but I adore her solo stuff. Saw her in Shepherds Bush last year. She’s gorgeous.

So long as it‘s not Greta Van Fleet and the recently reformed Doves. Having seen Buzzard x3 again this evening I’ll be surprised if they don’t feature this year.

(IDLES and Anais Mitchell if we're allowed to include them).

If not:

The Beths

Phosphorescent

Better Oblivion Community Centre

Pigs x7

Fatheir John Misty

The National

Stereolab

Mitski

Car Seat Headrest

my list, for what it’s worth (as bound to come in last on the bingo score card)

Sufjan Stevans

Ryley Walker

Lord Huron

Steve Mason

Better Oblivian Community Centre (refuse to spell centre any other way)

Jon Biden and the Remnant Kings

The Tallest Man on Earth

Bat for Lashes

Whitney

and a late result just in... Buzzards 3   Pigs 7  (away win)*

if by any miracle I win, the clippings can be donated to charity, the locks of hair to Elton John

* my choice excludes Pigs x 7 as they must be a certainty at this stage.

they're an increasingly popular beat combo that used to rip off tindersticks

and now just sound like every other medium sized venue indie rock band

I do think their earlier albums were better but I would be happy with The National if they don't do what they did last time and just perform the latest album.

To be fair Tinder sticks are not the wonderful band they used to be,now they play middle of the road soul music and gigs sound like one long track going nowhere and that's disappointing to say as they used to be my favourite band but.

we're going to have to agree to disagree on the sticks

the newer stuff is definitely a more challenging listen

but endlessly rewarding with repeated immersion

i didn't think it was going to work without dickon and al

but against all the odds...

i do hear you though - if they wanted to play exclusively from the first four records, i wouldn't complain!

The National tend to play a wider selection now, with a different setlist every night.  I've been told this is a result of Matt using a teleprompter, so no issues with remembering the words.  Intertesting how many bands do use teleprompters.

anyway, all this blather is all very well, but time is running out for the actually chance to win my dna and clone me at home

18 hours (and a bit) to posit your 10 guesses for tomorrow's announcement

my game, my rules - you can use bands seemingly already confirmed, no matter how dull

but remember, double points for non UK artists - so use your wild stabs in the dark wisely

Why are we assuming The National away---unless I've missed a GM hint.If it is National and Eels,I'm guessing at least one of the other headliners will be female.

Patti Smith is gigging in France the following week....
