Filling the void

OK so I can't compete with you London types but a quick skim tells me the fllowing are playing this autumn at Birmingham's finest venue, the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath, less than 5 minutes from my house: Keston Cobblers Club, RM Hubbert, Tunng, Lanterns on the Lake, Euros Childs, Sweet Baboo and Dutch Uncles. A short trip into town and at the Institute there's Everything Everything, Steve Mason, Public Service Broadcasting, Half Moon Run and Stornoway. And no clashes.

ooh

missed out on tickets for the november show

so glad to hear about february...

Would love to see him in Glasgow in January, which I'm assuming will be part of the Celtic Connections festival, but I've no leave left :(

Field Music coming to Cardiff is a consolation prize however - thanks for that one bph.

Just bought tickets to see Love Revisited (Baby Lemonade + Johnny Echols) at the Jazz Cafe next June.  I seem to remember some discussion on another thread of the possibility of them touring next year, so expect others may be interested.

As a result of my daughter's deft timing on the refresh button it appears I will be attending the Glastonbury festival of contemporary performing arts for the first time next year.

Wish me luck!

Congratulations Peridot,  it's been 10 years since I visited Worthy Farm.

Try and get some long distance walking practice in beforehand, I found it exhausting then and I was only 40ish!

Latest gig round-up:

Sweet Baboo - as sweet and lovely as always. A treasure.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - blindigly good. Book 'em for 2016 please!

Jane Weaver - stood about a yard from the speakers and completely lost myself in the sounds - that said only one new song?

Tomorrow it's Stanley Brinks and the Wave Pictures - wuold prefer the WPs on their own but am sure it will be epic.

Like Elizabeth I am somewhat handicapped in the gig-going stakes by my location (if you think Shrewsbury is bad, try living near Toulouse). Fortunately I get regular-ish work trips to London which I sometimes manage to combine with seeing bands. Saw Rachel Sermanni and Torres a couple of weeks ago - both excellent, would love to see them at Green Man.

Back in London early December, but nothing booked yet.

He's also doing a solo set in December at the Kitchen Garden cafe just round the corner from us, capacity around 40 at a push. There's always an interval to allow people to get to the bar!

Decided to throw caution to the wind,  have bought tickets for the London gig.

My sister in law lives next to Victoria Park, so I'm venturing out of the countryside.

Very excited.

Tiffany - Epcot Centre, yes I'm serious! Well, I might go and have a look! I Think We're Alone Now, always loved the Tommy James & the Shondells version!

Micachu and the Shapes, Joanna Newsom, Daniel Kitson, Howlin Rain, Swn Festival, Ezra Furman, Jane Weaver, Beak and Jeffrey Lewis all looming on my horizon

Sleaford Mods on fine form last night. Nothing like a sweaty, sweary man shouting at you for an hour...

#Torycore up next, George Osborne's (straight outta Tatton) budget speech over a soundtrack of doom/sludge metal, should be a fun night.

just can't get my head around the mods

jason williamson seems like a top man

gives great interview

then the records are all about donkeys with dandruff...

Saw the Mods in Cardiff last week and they did a great set. Sound was a bit fuzzy though so couldn't make out most of the lyrics. Without the words it's a bit like being harangued by a drunk outside the boozer at closing time - still love them live though

Also saw Simone Felice in a very intimate gig  at Globe in Cardiff. There's something about him that always make me feel fuzzy inside - finished with a crowd sing along and Neil Young and Springsteen covers though, which was nice

Similar sound where I saw them, I said to a friend it was like being shouted at by a very angry, sweaty man for an hour. Some nonsenical lyrics Ray but some great lines too, as well as some top class insults...

Saw them at EOTR this year doing a late night headline in Big Top. Sound was so much better and actually got to hear what they were saying - what a difference it makes!

At a very intimate Samantha Crain gig last weekend. Stunning performance. Speaking to her before the gig and she said when the subject of festivals came up that Green Man was her favourite ever and that she would love to play there again.

Saturday coming it's the Mountain Goats. It has, I think, been scientifically proven to be impossible not to enjoy oneself at a TMG gig.

Had a great weekend at Shiiine festival at Butlins Minehead, reliving the Madchester era with Happy Mondays/Inspiral Carpets/808 State/Stereo Mcs etc etc,6500 drunk 40+ year olds with zero trouble, next to zero phones held in the air and the most socialable friendly crowd[outside of green man forum meet] i have spent a weekend with.

Next week off to Pontins Prestatyn for Atp Nightmare Before Christmas, for me the most interesting line ups of any festival i've been to for years.Just love Atp events and it's such a bonus to have a chalet to stay in on site at a festival.
