I think they recorded it when they were Brother Louis Collective but didn't release it until this year when they had become Admiral Fallow.

I could be wrong but either way great album.

2. Driver Drive Faster - Open House

3. Other Lives - Tamer Animals

4. P J Harvey - Let England Shake

5. The Head and The Heart - The Head and The Heart

Well post yours and presumably they will have ;-)

I'm wondering where Lady GaGa is ... and Adele? They're on ever other 'best of' list I've seen so we must be an odd lot on here.

Not a vintage year from my P.O.V., but (in reverse order) here goes:-

Seahawks - Spaceships over Topanga Canyon

The Paperhead - The Paperhead

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

The Phoenix Foundation - Buffalo

Wooden Shjips - West

(honourable mentions for Y Niwl, Cashier Number 9, Crystal Stilts, She Keeps Bees, Radiohead, The Nightbeats and Erland & the Carnival)

(Remember when Green Man used to cater for the third eyes of Pysch-heads like me?)

The Go! Team - 'Rolling Blackouts'

Thurston Moore - 'Demolished Thoughts'

Devon Sproule - 'I Love You, Go Easy'

Stevie Jackson - '(I Can't Get No) Stevie Jackson'

Teenage Cool Kids - 'Denton After Sunset' (Landlocked State is my track of the year)

x

good to see a shout for dark dark dark but mine are

Josh T - say what you like about self pitying indulgance but this is top for me and a record that got little recognition is now regularly featuring in 'top' lists and time will only strengthen that.

Low Anthem - quality stuff, and a big step up from Charlie Darwin.  i thought they did one of the best sets at GM this year as well

Bonnie Prince Billy - Wolfroy Goes To Town is already one of my favs from BPB and given his back catalogue and consistency, thats saying something.  roll on January when I see him twice

King Creosote and Jon Hopkins -  simply beautiful

Tom Waits - as with BPB, Tom keeps producing the goods

not included in my 5 but my guilty pleasure this winter is Kate Bush.  oh, and Polly Jean's my girl (have almost everything shes released) but not sure I agree with the furore.  If Let England Shake and Stories got her 2 Mercurys then frankly she should have about 10.  sometimes momentum just leads to lazy journalism

In no particular order:

Elle Osbourne - So Slowly She Got Up

The Low Anthem - Smart Flesh

Ry Cooder - Pull up some Dust and Sit Down

The Leisure Society - Into the Murky Water

Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo

According to the CD, Admiral Fallow's Boot Met My Face came out in 2011, so for me they score 5 out of 5 as the best album of 2011 by a mile. They were fantastic live too at GM. Could we ask them to come again please!!!

1. Bombay Bicycle Club - A Different Kind Of Fix

2. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

3. The Decemberists - The King Is Dead

4. The Pheonix Foundation - Buffalo

5. Florence + The Machine - Ceremonials

 In no particlular order-

1. M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

2. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

3. Junior Boys - It's All True

4. Peaking Lights - 936

5. Slow Club - Paradise

 1. Bon iver - bon iver

2. Lanterns on the lake - Gracious tide take me home

3. Fleet foxes - Helplessness blues

4. Laura marling - A creature i don't know

5. Josh t pearson - Last of the country gentlemen

We all voted and the results are-

1. Fleet Floxes - Helplessness Blues
2. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
3. King Creosote & Jon Hopkins - Diamond Mine
4. The Low Anthem - Smart Flesh
5. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
6. Josh T Pearson - Last of the Country Gentlemen
7. Laura Marling - A Creature I Don't Know
8. Wild Beasts - Smother
9. Other Lives - Tamer Animals
10. The Decemberists - The King is Dead

: ) pretty spot on...

I wouldn't argue with that - well not much anyway.

Great to see Other Lives make it in.

The only one I personally don't get is Bon Iver - a big disappointment after 'For Emma ..' as far as I'm concerned.

Oh yes, on Bella Union (which proves that it's good - so there twee-haters!) imaginatively entitled 'Treefight for Sunlight'.
