I'll be mostly moaning about the chair people! You know, those people with fold up chairs that spread out across the main stage area. Thought I'd get that one in early!
Do people actually sit in chairs in the main stage area?! We've got foldy chairs, but we're leaving them by the tent, or we might park up a hill somewhere - would never take them anywhere near a stage!
1.) The bloody queue to get a wrist-band on Thursday afternoon.
2.) The bloody queues for the loos - just bite the bullet and get some more friggin' blue boxes green fella. On the plus side the drop downs were a welcome addition.
Everything else was great - truly the best UK festival for my money.
I'm not too proud to 'fess up and admit, despite earlier moans, that I even enjoyed some of the after-dark stuff, although the pub DJs were more my cup of tea, particularly Justin Wotsisname on Sunday, and Feeling Gloomy on Saturday.
Furthermore, I acknowledge that rumours of a lack of psychedelia were greatly exaggerated - Robyn Hitchcock, in particular, was fantastic.
Finally, appropos of nothing in particular, I must just mention the fact that my missus said to me, when I was sporting a Rush T-shirt that I'd "never see a woman in a Rush T-shirt" (70s prog being man's music n'all) and half an hour later I bought a mars bar from a lady over by the far out tent WHO WAS WEARING A RUSH T-SHIRT! I called the missus over to prove a rather tedious point. Result!
High Points? The whole weekend was one long high point. We'll be watching for early bird tickets for 2012 and no mistake. Here's hoping the festival is still going in 2112, as long as the priests of the temple of Syrinx don't put a stop to it.
GAster - I wonder if that was you sporting the Rush T-shirt close to the Rough Trade tent yesterday afternoon. I was just about to go and shake the hand of a fellow fan when I was distracted by someone else.
Yeah, that's true - how can it take so bloody long to put on a friggin wristband. It was a ridiculous queue. Should have gone through the Family Camping gate...
It probably was me Peridot - I did have it on yesterday.
I'd have been more than happy to shake your hand - I think I may have caught you on Thursday or Friday when I thrust a CD into your hand feeling slightly awkward so I just smiled and walked on.
If only I'd got one of those T-Shirts. Instant ice breaker for those like me who disagree with Morrisey's assessment of shyness as "nice".
the wristband queue - which was the only bit of GM i got to experience this year - may have been disastrously slow purely because quite a lot of the wristbands were faulty
it took about 15 bands before they could find one that would do up on mrs rad's son's wrist
to be fair, the folks dishing them out kept their humour - and the queue did move along
plus we met some nice youngsters in it who'd lost their dad and needed our 'grown up' assistance to get in!
I took today off and haven't got dressed yet! Not sure what I'll do with myself later, might purchase some junk food and put the healthy living back until tomorrow.
Actually, the chinese lantern thing is one that does bother me. I'm local and those things have been responsible for the deaths of livestock in the past, as when the flame goes out they land in fields where they are then eaten by cows and sheep who ingest and subsequently choke on the small metal parts inside. There are also several studies on the danger they pose to aircraft engines.
They look really beautiful but they are banned in a lot of European countries and given the location of Glan Usk I really don't think they should be allowed on the festival site.
My wife and kids went on the ferris wheel but bailed out before it got going! Wife and child no.2 terrified. Child no. 1 in tears because she wanted to stay on. On the GM facebook page someone's posted some pics taken from the top of the wheel - fantastic views! Never catch me on one of them things. Stuck inside of Birmingham with the post-Green Man blues again.
