Settlers meet up with kids

Hello !!

This is mainly aimed at fellow Settlers :

We are a family of 5 ( 2 adults, 3 boys, 7, 13 and 16) , last year was our very first time at a Festival, at Greenman and camping and we assumed we would just meet some fellow campers and enjoy a great week in company. We had a lovely time, but did not really meet anyone. Our direct tent neighbours were very nice, but all in bands and very busy and of drinking and had no kids. Our boys not the bravest did not really manage to make contact with anyone their age either - such a huge shame, because everything is better with company !! And we spent all day trying to entertain tem when they should have been running wild with all the new friends they made !

So I am reaching out this year now, in the forum, hoping to meet some people in advance, so that when we get there and picth up , we don't spend the week eyeing other Families to see if we could be friends (sounds a bit pathetic, but thats how it was !)

We saw a lot of people traveling in groups of Families, so already had people with them to hang out. We are the only ones in our friends group that are Greenman style inclined, so can't find any friends to come along with us.

Pitty party over ! We have secured a Caravan ticket so will be in that field.

So, anyone with kids in similar ages around this year ??

Kathryn

Hi Kathryn, there are some very friendly settler folk on here, they can probably advise better.

Elizabeth is an experienced settler and very friendly, she maybe able to help.

i purchased earlybird standard tickets for the festival only due to circumstances.

It now transpires I could go settlers but I can't  upgrade my live in vehicle ticket unfortunately, otherwise I'd be happy to meet up.

I'd suggest just getting involved in everything and chatting to as many people as possible.

The guys on here have a forum gathering on the Thursday night, go along and say hello.

We'll be settling again after having a blast last year. Come and say hello!

I can thoroughly reccommend a walk along the river to Crick. We had a lovely day there sipping cider whilst the kids splashed about in the river. The town is really welcoming to festival-goers too and it was good to spend a bit of money there which i gues sis one of the main reasons Fiona set up the Settlers thing in the first place.

Determined to win the Wednesday night pub quiz this year - did we finish second last year, Elizabeth?

Going to be great to see the mighty Cowbois too!

Hello! Thank you for replying : sorry for the long delay in getting back into the forum to check for replies. We visited crickhowell a few times last year during settler week, lovely puvs with great beer gardens, and spent an entire day by the river Weir swimming and playing football. We weren't bored, just wanted to meet some people instead of managing to spend a week by ourselves at a festival. Makes me sound like as right weirdo, but we are very social people , and our kids just didn't meet up with any one to hang out with :( so I was just trying to start up a conversation now, so that when we get there this year, at least we know a few people in advance, to know to say hi to and share a beer or two :)

Xx love the vid, like I said, we've been, we were sellers last year - just lonely settlers as we didn't meet anybody , so I'm trying to meet people in advance !! Hope that explains it better :)  - not newbie settlers , 2nd time round looking for some adult company this year and a wild group of kids for ours to hang out with ! Sorry I'm not explaining it very well.

Can't remember Kras, we usually get roundly beaten by a team of music journalists every year anyway....and the refreshments induced forgetfulness!

Hi Kathryn, don't worry about making friends, the kids form a sort of feral gang...very welcoming to new members.

We're coming for our 8th GM this year and our kids have made new friends every year and look forward to meeting up.

Slugger and Krasni's kids have become great friends with ours.

Lots of things to do at Settlers, it's a far more relaxed than the festival proper, gets you into the right frame of mind.

The walk down the riverbank to Crick is lovely, as Krasnyi mentioned.

See you there x

Can we have a separate forum area for Settler's related discussions?

Not that I'm jealous or anything ... it's just that errm ...

Okay, maybe just a bit :)

Hi - we are coming to settlers and happy to look out for you ... or perhaps join forces on pub quiz. We even won a camping chair at a previous year but not sure that proves anything about our credentials (!). I suspect that our quiz partners, who we joined forces with over a beer, should take credit. We have been to lots of Green Men and sometimes the kids hook up with new people, sometimes they mooch around together and sometimes go off and do their own thing so I know what you mean about hooking up not being inevitable. We have a games geek boy of 13 (so completely non-footballing) and a girl of 11. (Kirsty and Julian)

Hello - Same age as ours !!

Will be bringing baseball, mit and bat, some footballs and other outdoorsey entertainment to get them out of their computer- brains.

We will be there from midday Monday setting up in the Caravan field -small 2 birth, Large beige tent, black for Smax, when set up will have some bunting popped about too and I will tie a bow to our antenna !

Do pop over for a drink and say hello !! We love meeting new people and can't wait to keep the kids happy !

i am bringing one of my oldest friends (in every sense) to his first GM. Eric is 60 and likes beer, music, late nights, 60s and 70s guitar music and making new friends. He is an art school graduate ex-journalist who now makes a living selling art work. he is a very nice man and was once voted stockport's most sociable ex-journalist. Will anyone help take him off our hands for a few hours at some point(s) over the weekend?

Well Elzabeth, Eric (born Cheadle Hulme, resident Cale Green) is the self-apponted head of the Stockport fanclub. The town, not the Football club. Won't hear a word against it, thinks it's wonderful. Strawberry Studios, Blossoms pub, Robinsons Ale, John Mayall, Paul Morley (yawn) blah blah. Just dont make the mistake of allowing him room to start waxing. Lyrical, not bikini.

No, he's an avid Man City fan and season ticket holder. Who turned out a few times for Sheffield united reserves about 40 years ago. Apparently.

I might bring him along to the forum meet up. He will be the bald 60 year old in the vintage football shirt, workers hat (a worrying affectation), carrying a waxing kit.

Hello Eric, you might choose to say to him. He will tell you about Stockport
