Requests for 2020

Now the dust is settling on another Green Man, and a very fine one it was too, any thoughts on who we’d like to see next year? Truth is I have every faith in them to come up with the goods, and introduce me to some great new stuff as usual, but always good to see your suggestions too.

I’ll get the ball rolling.

Angel Olsen (love what I’ve heard from the forthcoming album. Next year’s SVE slot?)

Bon Iver

Portishead (maybe long overdue activity on the horizon?)

Sufjan Stevens

Beck (eventually he must play there, surely?)

Bat For Lashes

Deerhunter

Kim Gordon

Fontaines DC

Nilifür Yanya (deserves a larger audience than she had this year)

Grinderman (NC has recently suggested there might be more to come, and maybe more realistic than getting Bad Seeds?)

Sleater Kinney

Richard Dawson

Courtney Barnett

Sleep

Jen Cloher

Sunn O)))

Patti Smith (please bring her back, on the Mountain Stage this time)

Definitely a big shout for Beck to come along.

Nadine Shah is amazing and would give a memorable performance,

Sufjan Stevans is the one act that EOTR have previously bagged and really wish GM could also get him along.

I am sure Lord Huron should be due a return to Glanusk (as well as band of horses)

And in a perfect world, TomWaits, Neil Young, Paul Simon etc would all be fighting amongst themselves to get a headline slot in the South Wales sunshine.

as an aside, Hiss Golden Messenger will be in Bristol in December

Wave Pictures (or/and any variants - Stanley Brinks & WP’s, Surfing Magazines, etc.)

Let’s get Hen Ogledd back.

Outside chance heritage - Holy Holy and Saucerful of Secrets.

Amyl and the Sniffers

WH Lung

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard

David Crosby

Jon Hopkins

James Yorkston

John Shuttleworth

Scout Niblett

Sufjan Stevens and Portishead would be dream headliners.

Could definitely see White Denim, Weyes Blood, Bill Callahan, Tallest Man on Earth after their albums this year. Maybe Ride and Sleater Kinney as well. The Soft Calvary could make an appearance as the members seem to have quite a good relationship with the festival.

A return for Black Midi seems quite likely. Richard Dawson also given his new album coming out.

Others i’d love to see on the lineup:

Jenny Hval, The National, Mount Eerie, Holly Herndon, Boards of Canada, Hop Along, Ada Lea, Alvvays, Angel Olsen, Courtney Barnett, Mitski, Beach House, Let’s Eat Grandma, Virginia Wing, Julien Baker, Perfume Genius, Sandy Alex G and Japandroids.

Pat Dam Smyth's latest is pretty good. He'd be worth a punt. Previously played in Chai Wallah's. I think it was the one time I went up there for something specific.

having had the limiñanas this year

and the brian jonestown massacre last year

but never having had emmanuelle seigner

can we have them all together as l'épée next year please?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4gnWA1WkJo

(london show announced for december this year - no doubt more to come...)

I second that request, listened to the album for the first time yesterday and instantly impressive.

Only back home from Green Man yesterday so these are just initial thoughts.

First it was short on the psych side this year so

Moon Duo or Wooden Shjips

Allah Las

Psychic Ills

The Myrrors

Dead Skeletons

Mystic Braves

White Manna

Also Handsome Family are long overdue a GM appearance

If they are still going would love Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter

Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man

For Thursday would be happy with Dandy Warhols or Charlatans or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Acid Mothers Templs

Godspeed you Black Emperor

Plastic Mermaids

Roy Harper

jesse sykes & the sweet hereafter are indeed still going

though mostly just as local washington state appearances from jesse and phil

jesse has been spending the last few years working on a film - a kind of surreal, dreamlike memoir: 'forever, i've been being born'

she posts bits from it on FB from time to time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEUjosqW1FA

jesse has also replied to questions about a new record saying that it's almost done - and should be out before the end of 2019

so a trip to GM next year seems, if not perhaps likely, nevertheless not impossible

That's good to hear,it seems such a long time since Marble Son.Still regularly play Reckless Burning and Oh My Girl and easy to sit back and imagine your in a dark smokey bar with a JD.

for sure

great records all

last time i saw them was in marseille, i think - on the marble son tour

huge row between jesse and phil on stage

but that's not all that unusual by most accounts!

Find making these lists an impossible task, but while I'm on here, just listening to the new Futureheads album and totally hearing that stuff working well in a prime Far Out Tent slot. Possibly as part of a North East England takeover with Nadine Shah, Richard Dawson, Field Music, Slug, Pigs x7, The Unthanks and Warm Digits.

Roy Harper and Nick Harper. This year, I saw Roy Harper at Brexill on See De la Warr. He was in fine voice.

Nick Turner, Steve Hillage.

Robert Plant.

I'm pretty terrible at lists but a few I would like to see return...

Joan Shelley - What I've heard of her new album is great and thouroughly enjoyed her set in the Walled Garden a few years ago.

Explosions in the Sky - I know they headlined a few years ago but are about to start a 25th anniversary tour and are in the UK in February. May be tempted back for some festivals?

Mogwai - I know they've headlined before too but have been in the studio recently so it looks like there's new material coming.

EDIT: I'll also add Gill Landry to this list, partly becasue I got a handwritten postcard from him yesterday thanking me for supporting his new album. He was caught up in the Pledge Music shitshow and lost a lot of funds promised to him but he has sent out these small thank you's which is a nice touch. His set in the Walled Garden few years ago was great and Love Rides a Dark Horse is one of my favourite albums of the last couple of years.

Agree with ray_rad - l'epee would be great addition

Lorelle meets the Obsolete - great band to up the Psych element

Beck would be a dream

Squid again for the 3rd time please

Gintis, Estrons, Candelas, Euros Childs, Our Girl, Zefur Wolves and Pip Blom are all great live too

Fingers crossed

AKDK
Dana Gavanski
Diaphragm Failure
Einstürzende Neubauten/Blixa Bargeld
Goat (the Norwegian band; not to be confused with Goat Girl)
Oh Sees (or whatever they're called at the time)
Luminous Bodies
Mésange
Mildred Maude
Nick Cave
Patti Smith (live or would be fantastic to have in the talky tent too!)
Scooter
Siouxsie Soux (& the Banshees) live or in the talky tent
Snapped Ankles (who need to come every single year from now on)
Terminal Cheesecake
The Bolshoi/Trevor Tanner (who are back for 2020)
The Mysterines
Warmduscher

I'd be happy with M83,such a good live act.

Also not going to have another weekend sulking at home so got EOTR early bird tickets.

..... I've seen 5 performances at GM which I would describe as truly memorable ..... Patti Smith, The Tallest Man On Earth, Yorkston Thorne Khan, Richard Thompson, I would love to see the return of the fifth, Michael Rother. Those of us who saw his performance in 2016 will never forget it. Bring him back!

Trying not to do a "favourite bands list", so picking a few out who are due to appear/reappear.

It was 2009 that Wilco last played and they're still my favourite headliner. Would love to see them back.

David Thomas Broughton. Trying to remember if he's ever played GM but he'd be perfect for a good slot in the Walled Garden?

Have Giant Sand ever done GM?

White Hills? Bardo Pond? Acid Mothers Temple? Wand?

And I'm not the world's biggest Mountain Goats fan but it's just bizarre they've still never played.

Broken Bells are back with a new album coming - wouldn‘t they be an excellent mountain stage sub headliner following the Shins excellent set in 2017

Caribou looks set for a return to GM. Back with new music and playing in Berlin the weekend before the festival so is around at the right time.

Could have posted this in Filling the Void, but there is now no 'new' band I'd like to see at GM next year more than Dharma Bum.

So last Sunday evening, a visit to the Shacklewell Arms with my friend Richard to see Psychic Lemon, a band we’ve been waiting to see for a while, me having bought their first 2 albums. Anyway, one of those strange, but uniquely memorable gig evenings. To say that the audience consisted of about 10 people would be to imply that I can’t count, and I can - it was exactly 10 people – so we were 20% of it (yes, I can do percentages as well!). Of Psychic Lemon, let’s just say that, while I’d highly recommend the previous album Frequency Rhythm Distortion Delay, I won’t be buying their latest album which comprised their set.

However it certainly wasn’t a wasted evening. We arrived just in time for Dharma Bum (not to be confused with various other bands who are Dharma Bums, plural), who we knew nothing about and who then proceeded to completely blow us away. They are from Rouen in France and this was only their 3rd gig in the UK having just played in Chelmsford and Brighton, and they’ve no more lined up currently, although they are looking to arrange something around March, so hopefully that's when I’ll be seeing them again. Anyway here’s something to check out that at least gives you a flavour even if, as with a lot of good bands, recorded and live are 2 different things.

Nice find BITF, like the sound of that. I've never got around to seing Pyschic Lemon, despite coming from the same place as them. They don't seem to play here very often

It's 20 years next year since Nixon was released.

Any chance? Up with people on the mountain stage on Friday night - I can hear it now

I'll add Orville Peck to my previous list - I'm a bit late to Pony but it's probably my album of the year so far. I'll echo the shouts for The Handsome Family too.
