2017 requests

Hiss Golden Messenger (seems to have been discussed for a few years now)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dnlt3ZJjHw

The only logical reason they weren't there this year when their tour fits so neatly, is that they're booked already as next year's Thursday headliner!

Can't wait to see them next week!

Midlake

Golden Void

Timber Timbre

Sturgill Simpson

Arbouretum

Monster Magnet

That lot would be a decent start.

Definitely with you on HGM - new album out in the fall.He can bring Phil too!

..... this is my short list! x

YES, YES, yes, yes, yes, yes, YES, YESSSSSSS, YES, YES, YES, yes, YYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSS, yes, soso, YES, need to check out, YES

kinda sums up nicely, but I'd still like a night like Calexico, Will Onyebour tribute and Hot Chip again....  oh and must get Ezra back too

Hello all, after many years of lurking I've finally managed to get myself an account...

Christian Scott would be excellent in the 'jazz slot': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVJjmyFfuts

For those who wanted banjos, would Bela Fleck and the Flecktones be out of Green Man's budget? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0rp-r8yShs

Plus I'd like to see King Creosote, The Wave Pictures, British Sea Power and Devon Sproule (if she's performing post-baby) make a return.

Dream but never going to happen list for Green Man:

LCD (I know the GM tweeted again the other day that they try but they also said it's probably a bit of a stretch)

Iggy

Wolfmother

Bon Iver

Decemberists

Realistic list:

Eels

Avett Brothers

Allah Lahs

Phosphorescent

Buffalo Skinners

Sweet Baboo

More late night line ups like this year's

Chai Wallahs to keep coming back

reunited Ahab

reunited Fleet Foxes

Not Joanna Newsom

Not Animal Collective

YES!

maybe playing together

that's the kind of idea that could tempt will to play a festival...

Right, kingphilip has given me my cue ...

THE MEKONS (sorry for shouting)

with Jon Langford and the Men of Gwent as a bonus too.

Also Dancing Years - get them now while they'll do it for a few free tickets.

I though the gender balance was slightly off-kilter this year so any, or preferably all, of the following:

KATE TEMPEST (oops, did it again)

Case / Lang / Veirs (or any one off)

La Roux

Savages

Lonelady

Frazey Ford

Samantha Crain

Sinead O'Connor

Lisa O'Neil

Elle King

Bat For Lashes

Aurora

Du Blonde

Courtney Barnett

KT Tunstall

Alela Diane

Imelda May

Lake Street Dive

Julia Harris

Bonnie Tyler

to add to that list, as someone said above, devon sproule

and as no one has yet said, victoria williams

both equally unlikely, sadly

but for very different reasons

100% agree, and why not Lucinda Williams while we're about it - but then I've seen Lucinda before, but not Gillian.

If I could pick just 1 act to play at the world's finest venue it would be

THE MOUNTAIN GOATS

John Darnielle has a new book out early next year so GM could get a 2 for 1 deal with a Literature tent appearance as well.

(Just don't have it clash with Lisa O'Neill in the walled garden)

Green Man tweeted the Mountain Goats account the other day inviting them to play next year so it may well happen...

Crikey Slugger, It looks like your "I died and rose again just so I could get to Green Man and see the Mountain Goats playing" story might have worked.

(That may be slightly condensed and exaggerated, but captures the essence)

Additional thoughts

Drive by Truckers

Ty Segall/Fuzz

Richard Hawley

Teleman

Django Django

Mikey Georgeson/Mr Solo

Widowspeak

Had a massive list, went to post it and lost the lot!

OK here goes

Julian Cope

Nick Cave

Half Man Half Biscuit

The Orb

Boards of Canada

Billy Bragg

Frank Turner

Saint Etienne

Mogwai

Matthew Herbert

Spiritualized

Ride

Galaxie 500 (reformed)

Pale Saints (reformed)

Kate Tempest

Christy Moore

hows that for starters?

When I first came to Green Man I'd only have known three or four of the names on this thread.

Now there's only three or four I don't know.

Education has never been more enjoyable or rewarding :)

OK - here's my list of unlikely attendees: I'm not one particularly for getting people back year after year (except for Shazza and Michael Rother).

Randy Newman (after hearing Phil Cook's version of Sail Away)

Sleepy Man Banjo Boys (3 youngsters that would get the Walled Garden jumping)

Sarah Jarosz (great singer, guitar and mandolin player)

Miles Mosley (Kamasi's bass player, those who saw him will know what I mean, new album coming out too)

Sharon Van Etten (heartbreaker)

Lisa Hannigan (for being amazing)

Robin Pecknold (I know he does a fair bit of solo stuff)

Kacey Musgraves (country foot-stomper)

Michael Rother

Ryan Adams (Sunday afternoon perfection on the Mountain Stage)

Emmylou Harris (the Queen of the Silver Dollar)

Dave Rawlings (and Gillian Welch too)

Steely Dan

oh ... and The Ojays!

No doubt I'm going to be pretty happy with whatever we get, but how about:

Robert Plant, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Bon Iver, PJ Harvey, Dwight Yoakam,

(and then maybe more realistically),

The Allah-Las, Hookworms, Petite Noir, Tangerines, The Vryll Society, Pumarosa, Sophia, Car Seat Headrest, Margo Price, Low, Desert Mountain Tribe, Frankie Lee, Eagulls, DIIV, Algiers, Martha, Viewpoint, Sophie Hunger, Frightened Rabbit, Angel Olsen, Los Campesinos!

Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter Deerhunter  (please)

Michael Head, Sharron Krauss, Heron Oblivion, Thee Oh Sees, Baja Bitches, Helena Espvall, Laura Cantrell, - and definately Julian Cope - has the ArchDruid never played?

They had Copey there a year or two back in Babbling Tongues talking about his novel, but not playing unfortunately. Maybe next year? I'm perfectly happy leaving the line-up in their capable hands to be honest, and know there'll still be a number of new discoveries in there for me, which is half the fun for me. The several years I've now been going has definitely informed my musical tastes, so naturally a far higher percentage of acts are already familiar names these days. Plenty already covered above, but for what it's worth, here's my mix of some plausible and others highly implausible: Neil Young, PJ Harvey, Teenage Fanclub, Angel Olsen, Thee Oh Sees, Bjork, Beck, Cat Power, Ty Segall, Leonard Cohen, Os Mutantes, Monochrome Set, Tom Waits (in the realms of fantasy now), Real Estate, Sharon Van Etten, Nick Cave, Eleanor Freidberger, Wire, Sauna Yoth, William Tyler, Winged Victory, Protomartyr, Robyn Hitchcock, and Ryan Adams mostly as I know that would please a couple of friends of mine. Think it's probably a safe bet Pictish Trail will be there anyway.

How about Flight of the Condors.

definitely not that crappy flight of the condors tribute act called David Brent, like that does not even make sense!
