Potential 2016 headliners

Not that I'm really bothered about such things, but any thoughts who we'd like to see next year? I think they made a pretty good job of it this year all in all. Sure SFA helped shift a few tickets anyway. I'll throw in Beck, PJ Harvey and Bonnie Prince Billy for what it's worth, though I doubt they'd sell out as quickly as this year with that lot. I'd be more than happy with Nick Cave too

I think GM will 100% be trying to book Bon Iver this year, what with them reforming and doing a great set at Eaux Claire and having played gm before.

Also I tweeted them about trying to book Neil Young one year, to which they replied 'oh we do we do' so you never know..

Not sure Nick Cave will be ready for a headline set after what happened to his son a couple months ago.

I think Neil Young is on their wish list so maybe one year?

Arcade Fire and Eels would do nicely too.

But the person I most want to see on the 2016 bill is Kate Tempest

Excellent (and a bit more realistic!) choice!  She did 2 sets at BBC 6Music in Gateshead, one with her band and one with Eliza Carthy which was extraordinary (in a brilliant way).

Laura Marling?.........or a bit too drab?    Short Movie is a surprisingly good album. Kate Tempest, yeah. Sigur Ros / Mogwai, but they may scare people......

Mogwai have headlined main stage before, and Laura Marling has been a regular, though not for a couple of years now. Bjork could be another good fit

but i'd love joanna newsom if it aligns with her touring Divers. bjork or pj harvey would be a very close second preference.

Surely it is well over due for Julian Cope to play the Greenman. I had hoped after giving a talk about his book the other year his performance would have been pencilled in.

A lot of my preferences are already covered above... Would be nice to have any one of Eels, the National, the Decemberists, the Avett Brothers, Neil Young, Beck. Some more realistic than others. someone asked for Arcade Fire above... If we're allowing pipe dreams I'll add a return of Fleet Foxes!

Are The XX due a new album? The presence of Jamie on this year's bill - could that be an indicator of the shortlist?

my most desperately desired/super unlikely headliner is absolutely sleater-kinney, if they're still touring into 2016

Neil Young, Tom Waits (yes, I know - unlikely), Bill Callahan (of course), Lambchop, Sufjan Stevens, William Tyler, HGM, Ryley Walker (again) and I really missed James Yorkston this year.

Don't really care about headliners, rarely bother with them. The ideal Krasnyi band tends to play around 3.00 in the afternoon.

But I'd have thought Sufjan Stevens would be an obvious one. First Aid Kit must be nearly headline material by now too.

My dream headliner - Gorky's performing Brafundle

The absence of James Yorkston must be rectified for 2016 - also bring back other regulars  - King Creosote, 9 Bach, Cate le Bon, Euros Childs, Trembling Bells.

Nick Cave has been on my list for many years but due to the tragedy this year I couldn't imagine he would be ready by 2016.

Tame Impala would be great in my opinion.

I have also always wanted to see Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros on the bill.

I suspect Joanna Newsom will be on next year--not my thing but probably a right choice for Green Man

Would love Eels or Grinderman

Not as a headliner but would love to see Baby Lemonade with Johnny Echols playing tracks from the first three Love albums, who are touring as Love Revisited next summer to mark the 10th anniversary of Arthur Lees death.

christ - has it really been 10 years since arthur died...?

saw various versions of love so many times

a difficult man - but what a talent

the way it all fell apart with baby lemonade at the end was so sad

had no idea that the johhny echols thing had actually worked out

managed to see him play with arthur one time close to the end - really magical

i knew BL were planning to record with him (echols) - revisiting his unfinished record - but don't think anything ever came of it

hadn't heard about the anniversary shows - thanks for the heads up, BPH

(if i'd known you were a love man, we'd have chewed each other's ears off even more than we did this last weekend!)

Went to the Manchester gig  written about in his biography which was one of the most incredible audience reactions i have ever witnessed,he was clearly genuinely moved,so impressed me we travelled the country watching them the last few years they toured including being fortunate to get tickets for a gig in the tiny Fibbers bar in York when he did a small filler gig on his tour---already have tickets for the Manchester show next June but they did announce a tour a few years ago which never happened,so fingers crossed.

Okay time for the annual request for PJ Harvey...

Arcade Fire would be one hell of a catch, as would the return of The National. Gorky's doing Barafundle is a GREAT idea. The 20th anniversary is 2017 though, so maybe we will have to wait 2 more years for that. How about Wild Beasts for a return to the Far Out tent as headliners?

Guy Garvey is releasing a solo album in the autumn - would like to see him in one of the early evening slots on the Mountain Stage.

Obviously not as a headliner but surely Teenage Fanclub are well overdue a visit to Green Man, the new album is due next year so fingers crossed. Would like to see Ryan Adams play the festival and The Avett Brothers are surely due another visit, not just to Green Man but to the UK in general. It's ages since they last played here. And I wonder if Belle and Sebastian will ever actually play GM.

Some that haven't been mentioned yet ...

Gillian Welsh, The Barr Brothers, Ani Difranco, The Wedding Present, The Handsome Family, The Baptist Generals, Chuck Prophet, The Slow Show, The Unthanks, Lucinda Williams and ...

perfect for a Friday night sundown slot ...         The Mountain Goats

Old Crow Medicine Show; Gillian Welch; Bonnie Prince Billy; Jason Isbell; The Sensational Shack Shakers; Rhiannon Giddens/Carolina Chocolate Drops.

Martin Carthy; Fanfara Tirana meets Transglobal Underground;

The Moonbirds; Delyth Mclean;

Gillian Welch is such an obvious choice for Green Man

I'd love to see Shovels and Rope who were originally on the bil this year.

Aside from wanting to see PJ harvey at GM, I don't really care much about headliners. However, there are a few I would second above, esp. Welch. Here are my (many) polite requests for GM 2016 and beyond:

Hazmat Modine - in Europe every summer, once in UK, but absolutely amazing on record and live.

Jenny Hval

Jens Lekman

Emily Portman

Matt Stevens

Matt Berry

Evening Hymns

The Unthanks (It is wierd they have not previously been, about as wierd as them never being given a Folk Award).

RM Hubbert

Aiden Moffat

Withered Hand (again!).

Shanren / Dawanggang

Anais Mitchell

The Do - fantastic live, too little known in UK.

Doug Paisley.

Elle Osbourne

The Haxan Cloak.

Arch Garrison.

Camperlight! If he is ever allowed back.

Baxter Dury

Dan Haywood

On the official classification scale 2010 was 'soft' rather than 'wet'

2008 was wet.

As we're drifting off headliners only can I add a shout for the following returnees and new acts as headliners or otherwise.

Richard Thompson

Sinead O Connor

La Roux

Krill

Paul Buchanan

Ash

Maverick Sabre

Southern

Maud In Cahoots

9 Bach

Eagulls

Smoke Fairies

Antimatter People

Delyth Mclean

Bright Light, Bright Light

Phosphorescent

Ought

Brakes

Frazey Ford

Martin Stephenson

Robert Plant

The Last Internationale

Dancing Years

but I'd happily swap all of the above for Kate Tempest and Ezra Furman.

Where goes ezra furman next year, so go I. And if he and Phosphorescent happen to be at different festivals... It will be an expensive (but fun) year

however, I'd like to request that the request for Matt Berry is politely declined

Jimmy Webb

John Grant

Eels

Anais Mitchell

Dawes

Nick Harper

Boo Hewerdine

Sarah Jarosz

Davina & The Vagabonds

Next years GM headliners

Ok so I've been granted three wishes by the festival fairy so here goes...
Tom waits
The National
John Fogerty
And in the immortal words of Les Dennis if any of the above names are up there I'll put the money in myself

Okay some (more realistic?) wishes not necessarily as headliners:

John Grant
Eels
Manic Street Preachers
Yo la tengo
Bat for Lashes (new B4L album due spring)
Thom Yorke solo spot (my wish, my choice)
The Felice brothers
Bon Iver
Nick Lowe
Siouxie sioux
Buzzcocks
Yeah yeah yeahs

Echo & The Bunneymen

Mazes

Sparks / FFS

Kingsley Chapman & The Murder

Metric

Metronomy

Clinic

I wouldn't want someone like Delyth McClean or Peasant's King to play myself. I'm all for supporting local artists and everything but I go to this festival to get away from all the dreary local acts and take in something a bit more alien and extensive. Escapism is my forte and Greenman is the instigator.

War on Drugs..Phosphorescent..Bat For Lashes..Spiritualized..Jimmy Cliff...Polar Bear...James Holden..Blanck Mass...Kurt Vile...Kiasmos..Nils Frahm..A Winged Victory For the Sullen..Bon Iver..July Skies(ambient shoegaze with music/song titles made for the Green Man)...Jimmy Webb!...Phil Hartnoll(Orbital) dj...Daniel Avery...Max Cooper(incredible electronica/visual effects show)

Nic Jones, Beth Orton, Sarah Jarosz, The Thompson Family, Old Crow Medicine Show, Danny Thompson, Paul Buchanan, Peter Rowan, Chris Thile, Alison Moorer, Ryan Adams

not necessarily all headliners, but heres my wishlist, trying not to duplicate too many of those already mentioned

PJ Harvey

Pixies

Beach House

My Bloody Valentine

Ride

Beck

The Flaming Lips

CC Smugglers

Warpaint

Matthew Herbert

Four Tet

Boards of Canada

Billy Bragg

Spiritualised

Frank Turner

Half Man Half Biscuit

Saint Etienne

Mogwai

And, if we are talking dreams of bands reforming, Galaxie 500 please!
